In the case of mobile phones, change is everything. Recent research indicates that the mob
ile phone is changing not only our culture, but our very bodies as well.

First, let's talk about culture. The difference between the mobile phone and its parent, the fixed-line phone, you get whoever answers it.

This has several implications. The most common one, however, and perhaps the thing that has changed our culture forever, is the "meeting" influence. People no longer need to make firm plans about when and where to meet. Twenty years ago, a Friday night would need to be arranged in advance. You needed enough time to allow everyone to get from their place of work to the first meeting place. Now, however, a night out can be arranged on the run. It is no longer "see you there at 8", but "text-me around 8 and we'll see where we all are".

Texting changes people as well. In their paper, "Insights into the Social and Psychological Effects of SMS Text Messaging", two British researchers distinguished between two types of mobile phone users: the "talkers" and the "texters"--those who prefer voice to text message and those who prefer text to voice.

They found that the mobile phone's individuality and privacy gave texters the ability to express a whole new outer personality. Texters were likely to report that their family would be surprised if they were to read their texts. This suggests that texting allowed texters to present a self-image that differed from the one familiar to those who knew them well.

Another scientist wrote of the changes that mobiles have brought to body language. There are two kinds that people use while speaking on the phone. There is the "speakeasy": the head is held high, in a self-confident way, chatting away. And there is the "spacemaker': these people focus on themselves and keep out other people.

Who can blame them? Phone meetings get cancelled or reformed and camera-phones intrude on people's privacy. So, it is understandable if your mobile makes you nervous. But perhaps you needn't worry so much. After all, it is good to talk.

When people plan to meet nowadays, they ______.

A.arrange the meeting place beforehand

B.postpone fixing the place till last minute

C.seldom care about when and where to meet

D.still love to work out detailed meeting plans

It happens to all of us sometimes, doesn’t it? You have a deadline to meet, but ins

tead of doing your work, you check Facebook or do some on line shopping. This is called procrastination, and it affects everyone. So how can you stop procrastinating?

We often procrastinate because a task seems too big, or impossible to achieve.Try breaking down the task into smaller pieces. For example, instead of thinking,“I need to finish this essay by 10 p.m.tonight ” tell yourself,“I’ m going to make a short outline, fill that in, and then look for quotes.”

Another important factor is your environment, isn’t it? If there are too many distractions in your work space, you may be tempted to procrastinate more. Are there any things in your work space (for example, a TV) that could be causing you to lose focus?

Making a timeline with goals and deadlines is a great way to stop yourself from procrastinating.

However, it is important to make your deadlines realistic so that you can be sure you’ll stick to them.

Some people like to wait for the perfect time to start a task, while the perfect time is often now.Try something called the Two-Minute Rule to help you get started. This idea comes from David Allen’ s best-selling book, Getting Things Done.It states that.if something takes less than two minutes, such as washing your dishes after a meal, then you should do it now.

1.Procrastination means().

A.putting your work off till later

B.doing your work quickly

C.doing your work carefully

D.doing your work well

2.Sometimes we procrastinate because a task seems too().

A.easy

C.attration

D.concentration

4.Setting realistic is a() good way to stop procrastinating.

A.environments

B.deadlines

C.focus

5.The Two-Minute Rule states that if something takes no more than two minutes, you should().

PPHC and Gooseneck are two organizations that do similar community work. Each has hired a new staff member to make contact with and provide services to new parents.

Why We Need Vacations There's more to a vacation than can be described in travel books. We
certainly need breaks from work. But there is even more to be said for a get-away break, leaving all daily work behind and living a different life for a short time. The benefits of taking a vacation start long before the suitcases are packed. A vacation is something to look forward to. It gives us the sense that whatever is happening at the moment will end soon. Companies sometimes use away-breaks to restore(恢复)motivation and team relationships. If you're able to switch off and leave your daily work behind, when you come back, you often view old situations with fresh eyes and see them in a new way. People don't disappear while no vacation. We're still thinking and feeling the whole time we're away. What really makes the difference is not simply getting away from the daily work; it's being able to do something else instead. We might speak to people we wouldn't normally meet, try sports we'd not do otherwise, and discover interests we never knew we had. Vacations also allow us to focus on the present in a way that's hard to do at home. When you're in a new environment for a short time, your attention tends to be on what's happening right now and in the next few days. Being "in the moment" is in itself one of the keys to getting relaxed, and this happens more naturally on vacation. Every vacation is an adventure full of potential discoveries. Perhaps more than anything else, vacations enable us to raise our eyes from familiar paths so that we can look around and see that there's a world out there. 听力原文: April Fool's Day started in the sixteenth century in Europe. Before that time, New Year's Day was celebrated on April 1st. Then a new calendar was introduced called the Gregorian calendar. January 1st became the first day of the year, but many people did not know about it. So those who continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1st were laughed at. They were called fools.

Nowadays we play jokes on people on April 1st. For example, someone might put salt in the sugar container so another person could "accidentally" put it in their coffee. Or someone might change the time on another person's alarm clock so that person would unknowingly wake up earlier or later than planned. Or maybe a person would tell a lie to make someone else shocked. After we play the trick, we say "April Fool." Then the poor person realizes he was fooled. In many countries newspapers and the other media participate with false headlines or news stories. It is generally done in the spirit of fun and doesn't cause any real harm to anyone. Do you have any great jokes to play on others? Try it out an April 1st. Just don't forget to say "April Fool" when the other person begins looking a little confused.

(23)

A.Play jokes on others.

B.Say "April Fool" to others.

C.Celebrate the New Year.

D.Celebrate the adoption of calendar.
